According to U Min Nai, chairman of the New Generation Social Welfare and Rescue Association, at around 12:30 noon on February 13, two young men drowned in a pond at the Salian Golf Course in Salian Town, Yangon Province.

Wu Min Nai said that after the incident, members of the fire brigade of the Salim Town Fire Department and the Shwedang Mountain Fire Brigade conducted search work at the scene and found one body at 2 o'clock at noon, and another body at around 2:30.

It is reported that on January 1 this year, at the Fort Pier on the Irrawaddy River on Jiangbian Road in the west of Mandalay City, a child swimming in the river also unfortunately drowned.

Similarly, on November 17, 2025, four men drowned while swimming in a competition near Qiangsong Bridge in Block 5, Myawaddy City.

At present, drowning incidents caused by swimming occur frequently across the country. According to data obtained by the Myanmar Social Welfare and Relief Organization, most accidents are caused by splashing or swimming competitions in streams, rivers, lakes and ponds.

Young men account for the vast majority of recent drowning incidents in cities such as Myawaddy, Yangon and Mandalay. It is understood that the causes of death are mostly due to encountering strong currents in deep water areas or exhaustion of physical strength.
