At present, many public undergraduate colleges named after "finance and economics" have already broken away from the "college" group and been promoted to universities. Guangxi University of Finance and Economics is a general undergraduate university in finance and economics that is key to the construction of the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. There are now 15 teaching colleges and 59 undergraduate majors. In 2021, the school will become a master's degree-granting unit, and currently has three professional master's degree authorization points in accounting, finance, and taxation. There are 6 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 14 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites.
There are currently three campuses, namely Xiangsihu Campus (No. 189, University West Road, Nanning City), Mingxiu Campus (No. 100, Mingxiu West Road, Nanning City), and Wuming Campus (under construction). Among them, freshmen from the School of Economics and Trade, the School of Finance and Public Administration, the School of Finance and Insurance, the School of Business Foreign Languages, the School of Business Administration, the School of Management Science and Engineering, the School of Journalism and Cultural Communication, and the School of Law are arranged to study at the Xiangsihu campus. Freshmen from China-ASEAN School of Statistics, School of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, School of Mathematics and Quantitative Economics, School of Accounting and Auditing, School of International Education, School of Sports Economics and Management are arranged to study at the Mingxiu Campus.
The school has a team of teachers who love higher education, have high academic standards, rich teaching experience, are innovative and energetic. There are 1,287 full-time teachers, including 571 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 44.37% of the total number of full-time teachers. There are 363 teachers with doctorate degrees and 238 teachers who are studying for doctorate degrees. The school has formed a teaching team structure with a reasonable proportion of high and intermediate professional titles and a reasonable echelon of young and middle-aged academic backbone teachers, led by high-level leading talents such as the national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" philosophy and social sciences leaders, experts with special government allowances from the State Council, distinguished experts from the autonomous region, Bagui young scholars, Guangxi famous teaching teachers, and second-level professors.
In 2023, the school will recruit students from 22 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) across the country, and will enroll students in 51 undergraduate majors and 4 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. A total of 5,650 full-time general undergraduate freshmen and 234 minority preparatory class freshmen will be admitted. The enrollment plan completion rate is 100%.
In recent years, the school has vigorously adjusted and optimized the discipline layout and structure, forming a high-level discipline system with reasonable layout, outstanding advantages, and distinctive characteristics that deeply matches the regional economic and social development. Applied economics and statistics were approved as a new round of first-class discipline construction projects in Guangxi. There are 2 autonomous region key laboratories, 4 autonomous region-level think tanks, 3 Guangxi university key laboratories, and 4 key research bases in the humanities and social sciences. Since 2018, the school has won 88 national-level scientific research projects and 292 provincial-level scientific research projects. Among them, it has won 1 major project and 1 key project from the National Social Science Fund, and the number of projects approved by the National Social Science Fund ranks among the top universities in the region.
The school adheres to its leading position in discipline construction and has built a discipline system with the three major disciplines of economics, management and science as the main disciplines, and the coordinated development of economics, management, science, engineering, liberal arts, law and art. It has made outstanding achievements in scientific research and social service. At present, the two disciplines of applied economics and statistics have entered the ranks of Guangxi's first-class disciplines; in 2021, the school was approved as a master's degree-granting unit, and was also approved for three master's degree authorization points, including a master's degree in finance, a master's degree in taxation, and a master's degree in accounting, achieving a major breakthrough in the school's history; in the 2022 dynamic adjustment of degree authorization points announced by the Degree Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the autonomous region coordinated the list of additional degree points to be added. The school's professional master's degree in auditing has become one of the only three dynamically adjusted degree points in the region.
Five major changes in admissions in 2023
① Increase in enrollment plan: The school’s general undergraduate enrollment plan in 2023 is 5,650 students, an increase of 1,150 students compared with last year. A total of 55 majors (projects) are enrolled, including 4 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects.
②Increase the enrollment scale of undergraduate art majors in advance, and the enrollment plan of environmental design major will increase from 40 last year to 80 students.
③Increase the number of out-of-district enrollment plans. The school plans to enroll 613 out-of-district students in 2023, an increase of 77 students compared with last year.
④ Adjust the subject categories. The two professional subject categories of computer science and technology, human geography and urban and rural planning are adjusted from engineering and management to science.
⑤ Adjust the proportion of cultural and professional scores in the comprehensive scores of early batches of fine arts from the original 30% of cultural scores to 40%. In 2023, the comprehensive score of school art majors = cultural scores (including bonus points for characteristic scores) × 40% + professional scores × (750/300) × 60%.
