The notice circulated in the circle of friends that Shancai University is trialling co-ed housing has been confirmed to be false news.
A "notice" "To cultivate healthy and upward sexual orientation and character, Shandong University of Finance and Economics undergraduate dormitory will trial mixed male and female dormitories" started to hit the circle of friends on the evening of the 7th. On the 8th, reporters found out that this was a farce played by a freshman at the school to prank his roommate. The school official also responded that the school has never tried co-ed housing for men and women, and the school has now severely criticized and educated the student. Some netizens commented, "This is the first incident of cheating roommates in 2016." Shocked! A "notice" came out that Pingshan University of Finance and Economics wants mixed housing?
Starting from the evening of the 7th, many friends’ WeChat Moments were flooded with a screenshot of Shancai University’s “shared housing notice”. The screenshot shows that the "notice" was published in the "Department News" column of the "Shandong University of Finance and Economics News Network", which reads: In order to enhance communication among classmates, cultivate healthy and upward sexual orientation and character, and at the same time integrate student dormitory management with international standards, Economics The school has decided to trial the management policy of mixed male and female dormitories from the second semester of the 2015-2016 school year (from February 18, 2016). The pilot dormitories are Buildings 10 and 11. Interested students are asked to obtain a paper application form from the counselor of the current grade. At the end of the "notification", two mobile phone numbers were left, one was "Teacher Wang" and the other was "Teacher Jiang".
The reporter immediately checked the official website of Shancai University News Network, but found no relevant notice. The "Department News" column showed that the latest news was released on December 31, 2015.
After careful study, the students of the school also found four suspicious things about this "notice": first, according to the school's practice, such news should be released in the "Notice Announcement"; second, the publishing unit should be a certain department or college of the school, not "Shandong University of Finance and Economics"; third, the contact information generally left in the school notice is the office phone number; finally, student accommodation is managed by the Student Affairs Office, and this "notice" is signed by the Academic Affairs Office.
The truth is out! The notification department software maker was originally a freshman who pranked his roommate
At 9 a.m. on the 8th, the reporter dialed the number of "Teacher Wang." The phone rang for about a minute before the other party hung up. Later, the other party responded with a text message: "Hello, I am in class. Is there anything I can chat about via text message?" The reporter asked via text message: Are you a student or a teacher? Is the news about Shancai University's undergraduate dormitory trial trial of co-living for men and women true?
Soon, the other party replied: "I am a student, and the news about mixed-gender housing was made by others. I have already posted a message to refute the rumors. Please don't believe it anymore. If people around you continue to post this picture, please ask them to delete it? Thank you!"
The other party sent several text messages to the reporter in succession, explaining the whole story in detail. It turned out that he and the "Teacher Jiang" who appeared in the notice were both freshmen at Shancai University and were roommates. This "notice" was made by another roommate using software on the evening of the 7th and posted it on WeChat Moments. The original intention was to make a joke with them, but he did not expect to have such a big impact after it was released. "I just took a nap, and when I woke up, the whole world had changed." Xiao Wang said that after he saw this false news being spread, he asked his roommate to delete it immediately and sent a message to refute the rumor.
Reporters saw from Xiaowang's QQ space that on the evening of the 7th, he sent a message to refute the rumors, saying that if you see this message, don't believe it or call him. This is just a trap dug by his roommate. He also called on others to forward the message to refute the rumors. In the early morning of the 8th, Xiao Wang posted a more detailed rumor refuting message on his account.
Relevant teachers from Shancai University also confirmed to reporters that the school website had never published this news and it was indeed a prank by a student. The school has severely criticized and educated the student.

This is not the first time that "shared housing" has been spread
Every year, colleges and universities fail
Shancai University is not the only school that is "disregarding". Many domestic universities have recently been rumored to require "gender-sharing", including the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Changchun Vocational and Technical College, etc. Screenshots circulated on the Internet show that the versions and contents of the so-called "notices" for co-housing in these universities are similar. The main differences are the dormitory building number, payment time and issuing unit. Various universities have also clarified that the news is untrue.
In fact, this "notice" is not the first time it has appeared. It has appeared from time to time in the past few years. For example, on October 28, 2013, the Hunan Normal University version of this notice appeared on Baidu Tieba; on June 6, 2012, a similar Anhui University version also appeared online, but was subsequently clarified by the school; in July 2014 , and the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics version has appeared… Rough statistics show that there have been at least the Southwest University of Science and Technology version, the Guangdong College of Pharmacy version, the Tianjin University of Technology version, the Zhejiang Institute of Communication and Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications version, and its distribution can be said to be all over the country.
At present, it is not possible to confirm who the initiator of the "notification" is. Domestically, no university has publicly confirmed that it has adopted or considered adopting this approach. It can be seen from public reports that most reports on male and female students living together in colleges and universities are concentrated abroad. For example, in April 2008, domestic media quoted the Boston Globe as saying that the University of Pennsylvania, Skidmore and Ithaca Colleges, and Oregon State University have allowed students of different genders to become roommates. At the urging of student activists, more than 30 schools have adopted this practice, but it is also controversial.
