The Live Broadcast And Application Platform Of Finance And Economics Schools For The High-end Recruitment Season Are Online To Answer Questions Such As Filling Out Application Forms

The 2020 high school recruitment season has officially entered the application filling time. If you are interested in applying for a major in finance and economics, starting from July 22, Daily Economic News, the "biggest V in financial media", will join hands with China Education Online to hold dozens of live broadcasts from well-known financial and economics schools within three days, bringing "the first lesson in finance and economics" to college entrance examination students who are about to enter university, and answering questions related to admissions policies and volunteer application.

On July 23, the "Daily Business News Direct Business School", an authoritative platform for China's financial and economics college applications built by the National Business News (hereinafter referred to as "NBD"), was officially launched, bringing more application consultation and information services including accurate school recommendation, growth planning and career advancement.

On July 24, we invited Lu Changjiang, deputy dean of the School of Management at Fudan University, and Mi Kai, director of the Undergraduate, Master and Doctoral Education Center of the School of Management at Fudan University, to talk about the educational philosophy and professional settings of the School of Management and other hot topics of concern to students and parents.

Q1. First of all, please briefly introduce Fudan University School of Management.

In 1917, Fudan established a business major, making it the first university in China to major in business administration.

Our School of Management is first and foremost a humanities school with a profound humanistic heritage. The mission of our college is to be rooted in a progressive China, committed to innovative research, and to cultivate management professionals, academic managers, and social leaders who have an international perspective and a deep understanding of China's national conditions.

Currently, our college has seven undergraduate majors, including business administration, business management, accounting, finance and marketing, which focus on management, and statistics, information management, and management science and engineering, which focus on technology. We have the best teaching staff. The School of Management currently has 146 full-time teachers, more than 96% of whom hold doctorate degrees.

Q2. Compared with other financial and economics schools in China, what are the characteristics of Fudan School of Management?

Among the management schools of the four universities: Peking University, Tsinghua, Fudan, and Jiaotong University, Fudan School of Management has the most comprehensive subject categories, covering traditional advantageous majors such as accounting, finance, finance, management science, information management and information systems, and also has cutting-edge disciplines involving emerging technologies such as big data.

Compared with other schools that require students to choose their major in advance, our students have a lot of room to choose their major. We will not match majors based on students' GPA and rankings, but based on students' interests and wishes. Students have a very large degree of professional freedom.

Our School of Management adopts a credit-based teaching system. We have no restrictions on the 7 undergraduate majors. Students can choose freely after enrollment. We fully respect everyone's major choice and career development opportunities. Our undergraduate program adopts a "1+2+1" training model: in the first year, we study together in school, and our School of Management is paired with a tutor; in the second and third years, we study in the School of Management and provide rich internship opportunities; in the fourth year, students choose their favorite major according to their own wishes, and then do a dissertation and graduation internship.

In fact, in the sophomore and junior years, the teacher will give the topic and the student will make a choice. If the teacher passes the interview, the student can start doing academic research.

Q3. Can you focus on introducing the tutor system for undergraduate students?

We adopt a dual-tutor system. On the one hand, all our undergraduate students will be assigned a dedicated college tutor, and there will also be an alumni tutor.

Each student has a professor as a mentor, not the teacher in charge of the academic work in the general sense. For example, every year our college recruits about 200 undergraduates, and we allocate 1 to 2 student places to more than 150 full-time professors.

We have more than 50,000 alumni, many of whom have joined our mentorship program. Most of these alumni work in well-known companies such as Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, and China Merchants Bank, and can provide students with useful consultation and guidance in many aspects such as study, life, and career development.

Q4. If I study in the School of Management, how many opportunities are there to apply for overseas exchange and study?

International exchanges and cooperation should be a major feature of our School of Management.

Our school attaches great importance to international exchanges and has rich international exchange resources. It has signed exchange and cooperation agreements with more than 40 top foreign business schools, including the University of California, Los Angeles, and Princeton University. We have also cooperated with top European business schools such as London Business School to launch dual master's degree training programs.

Every year, we send 70% of our undergraduates to study abroad, and most of the schools are famous international schools such as Harvard University and Stanford University. If there are students from poor families, we will fully subsidize them and provide them with scholarships. This is the only one among domestic management schools.

Q5. In addition to professional teaching, what features does the School of Management have in cultivating students’ practical abilities?

Our school of management established a career development center very early and formulated a very good vocational training plan. Students are allowed to participate in vocational training when they are freshmen; during sophomore year, students are provided with guidance on major selection and alumni mentor selection; during junior year, students are trained on interview consulting skills; and during senior year, employment counseling is provided.

In addition, we also attach great importance to the second classroom and corporate practice courses. On the basis of professional ability training, we focus on cultivating students' comprehensive abilities, especially practical abilities. Therefore, we have opened a large number of practical courses, including Citibank’s financial practical courses, and practical courses in cooperation with the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Q6. What is the main destination for students from the School of Management after graduation?

In 2019, as many as 60% of undergraduate graduates from our School of Management chose to continue their studies, 30% chose to find employment, and 9% chose to start their own business. Many students who are pursuing further studies have gone to prestigious European and American universities. Most of the employed students have entered well-known companies such as Morgan Stanley, Barclays, and KPMG.
