This year’s Anhui Provincial Government Work Report proposed accelerating the cultivation of the biopharmaceutical industry. In this regard, Wang Qi, member of the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and secretary of the Party Committee of Anhui Medical University, called for promoting the leap-forward development of the health industry and undertakings in Anhui Province by paying attention to and strengthening the construction of new medical sciences.

In his view, the current diversified development of the life and health industry in Anhui Province and the deep integration of various fields have resulted in the emergence of a large number of new directions and new problems, which are in urgent need of support from compound talents with medical backgrounds.
At the same time, medical services are also transforming from single disease diagnosis and treatment to full-cycle health management of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, which requires universities to change the concept of medical education. Moreover, the high-quality development of the health industry and undertakings requires the support of high-quality scientific research results, which places higher demands on the achievement transformation capabilities of universities and scientific research institutions in Anhui Province.
Therefore, Wang Qi believes that attaching importance to and strengthening the construction of new medical disciplines, forming new concepts and new models of life-health full-cycle medical education ranging from treatment-focused to preventive treatment and health care, building a number of new disciplines and new majors that closely meet the needs of Anhui Province’s health industry, and building a high-energy, high-efficiency industry-university-research collaborative innovation system are necessary measures to promote the leap-forward development of Anhui Province’s health industry and undertakings.
Wang Qi said that the "newness" of the construction of new medical science lies in three changes.
It has shifted from focusing only on medical care in the past to focusing on the full life cycle of prevention, medical treatment and health care; it has shifted from focusing only on health in the past to paying equal attention to health and health industries; it has shifted from integrating resources within the school to focusing on integrating resources from universities, enterprises, society and other aspects.
"But today, there are still problems such as relatively insufficient basic conditions for the construction of new medical sciences, lagging medical education reform, and insufficient collaboration between industry, academia and research. Therefore, if we want to achieve leap-forward development of the health industry and undertakings, we must pay attention to and strengthen the construction of new medical sciences." Wang Qi said.
To this end, Wang Qi suggested striving for national policy support, improving medical school running resources, increasing investment in campus construction and major education and scientific research equipment, further improving the quality of running schools, accelerating the promotion of new medical education and teaching reform in medical schools, and in-depth docking with the development of the health industry and careers in Anhui Province.
Wang Qi said that we can learn from the experience of industry-university-research construction of high-level medical universities in the Yangtze River Delta region and refer to the "USTS Silicon Valley" model to support the construction of the "Jianghuai Medical Valley" future industry pilot zone. Attract social capital to participate through government guidance funds, venture capital, equity financing, etc., while strengthening cooperation with financial institutions, broadening funding sources, supporting the construction of industry-university-research bases, and promoting the leap-forward development of health industries and undertakings in Anhui Province.
