Vienna International Energy and Climate Forum

The two-day Vienna International Energy and Climate Forum opened on the 9th. At a side event with the theme of "Energy Transformation Capacity Building and Standard Innovation" on the afternoon of the 9th, the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization (hereinafter referred to as the "Cooperation Organization") jointly launched a global cooperation initiative with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat, the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network and other institutions and organizations, calling for leveraging the advantages of the Global Energy Internet platform to provide systematic solutions for promoting energy transformation and responding to climate change.

The initiative includes six major measures: strengthening the global capacity-building cooperation mechanism; co-building the Global Energy Internet Academy; promoting energy transformation knowledge sharing; strengthening resource mobilization and sustainable investment; promoting inclusive participation of youth, women and other groups; and strengthening monitoring and evaluation and continuous improvement.

Xin Baoan, chairman of the cooperative organization and chairman of the China Electricity Council, pointed out at the side meeting that the current global climate crisis is intensifying. Since the signing of the Paris Agreement, the international community has made many efforts, but global carbon emissions continue to rise. He emphasized that to deal with climate change and ensure energy security, we must accelerate energy transformation and build a clean-led, electricity-centered, interconnected, smart and efficient global energy Internet.

Xin Baoan said that responding to climate change and accelerating energy transformation are the common tasks of all countries. In the process of promoting energy transformation, developing countries generally face challenges in technology, talent, standards and other aspects. Cooperating organizations will continue to strengthen technology exchanges and sharing, professional talent training and international standard innovation to help empower developing countries in their energy transformation.

As the first international organization in the energy field initiated and founded by China, the cooperative organization has 1,450 members around the world, covering 145 countries. In recent years, cooperative organizations have carried out in-depth capacity building for developing countries and have provided professional training to more than 100 countries and tens of thousands of people. At the same time, in cooperation with the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the first working mechanism for capacity building in the energy field under the global climate action framework was established.
