Recently, Mr. Wang, a citizen, reported to "Xinmin Helping Nongfu" that the pedestrian overpass located at the intersection of Chenxiang Highway and Guyiyuan Road in Jiading District suddenly stopped operating the escalator without any warning, which caused great inconvenience and safety risks to surrounding residents, especially the elderly and disabled people.
Reporters saw at the scene that the overpass is an important transportation hub connecting Nanxiang Impression City MEGA, Xihuan Central Business Building and Chenxiang Highway Station of Metro Line 11, with a huge flow of people. However, the two escalators (one up and one down) near Exit 4 of the subway station have quietly stopped.
Elevator out of service
The reporter found that there were no fences or warning tapes set up to isolate the out-of-service escalator entrances, nor were any "equipment maintenance" or "suspended use" notices posted. Many pedestrians, especially young people who were looking down at their mobile phones, suddenly realized that it was impassable when they reached the escalator, and they almost stepped down. What is even more worrying is that the "special equipment use mark" (i.e. certificate) was not found on the escalator, and citizens were unable to confirm whether it had undergone regular inspections and what its safety status was.
"This escalator broke down without any warning or notification. It is too dangerous for the elderly and children." Aunt Li, who lives nearby, said that the height of the overpass is equivalent to two floors. After the escalator is out of service, she can only take the stairs next to it. For her with limited legs and feet, every pass is a challenge.
Citizens called on relevant departments to find out the reasons for the outage of the escalators as soon as possible, set up necessary warning barriers, and clarify the time limit for repairs to eliminate potential safety hazards.
