At the site of the "Write a Letter Home" gratitude education activity at the School of Art of Shandong University of Science and Technology, the reporter saw that some freshmen told their parents anecdotes about when they first entered college. Some of the words were full of students' longing for home. Some shared the ups and downs of military training, and some told their families what they had been holding back for a long time. The two-hour activity ended quickly, but the pens in the hands of the students did not stop.

During the registration period for freshmen, some colleges specially set up "love cabins" to allow freshmen and parents to express their care and expectations for each other by writing letters.
90% of college students have no habit of writing letters

The reporter randomly interviewed more than a hundred college students from universities such as Ocean University of China, China University of Petroleum (East China) and Qingdao University. Nearly 90% of the college students interviewed did not have the habit of writing letters to their families. "It's so convenient to use mobile phones now, and I can say what I want to say using WeChat or QQ. To write a letter, you have to buy stamps, buy envelopes, and run to mail it. It feels really troublesome." Liu Xintong, a sophomore at Qingdao University, told reporters that in her memory, she only wrote a letter to her classmates once in high school, and never wrote again after that.
In addition, four students said that they occasionally write letters to family or friends to share bits and pieces of their lives. “It actually doesn’t take long to write letters in school, and you can express a lot of your thoughts, but it takes a lot of time to go out and send letters.” A junior student told reporters.
College students forget the words when writing a letter
We usually use mobile phones to communicate and computers to write papers and documents. Nowadays, people have fewer and fewer opportunities to write with pens. College students are no exception. Writing letters can enhance emotional communication
Wu Lianhai, a consultant at the Mental Health Education and Counseling Center of Ocean University of China, said that it is very convenient for people to communicate using mobile phones, computers and other tools, which can be regarded as a historical development trend. Just because college students don't write letters to their families doesn't mean that they are unfilial or that they don't care about their families. "As a traditional way of communication, letters allow people to express their feelings and thoughts through words, which indeed gives people a solemn feeling, but letters are no longer the main way of communication," Wu Lianhai said.
"Usually, college students communicate with their parents on the phone and send WeChat messages, and they usually talk about trivial things. The content written by college students in letters is basically well thought out and will put more of their emotions into it. Family members will also be very touched when they receive the letter and read it." Wu Lianhai said that college students communicate with their families through letters, which is actually a way of parent-child communication.
