Guangxi is the only province in China that is adjacent to ASEAN on land and sea. It is the frontier and window for China to open up and cooperate with ASEAN. Wei Shizhen, president of Guangxi University for Nationalities, said that the establishment of the School of International Communication is another important measure for the school to proactively serve the national strategy and deepen the ASEAN education characteristics. The School of International Communication of the school will actively build a comprehensive talent training system that "understands communication, speaks foreign languages, knows the region, and is good at practice" to deliver more high-quality applied international communication talents with international adaptability.
Guangxi University for Nationalities is one of the Ministry of Education’s first batch of national foreign language non-common language undergraduate talent training bases and the Ministry of Education’s first batch of national and regional research bases. It has been deeply involved in ASEAN non-common language education since 1964. It has a doctoral degree authorization point for first-level disciplines in foreign languages and literature. It has 7 ASEAN national language undergraduate majors. It has built 3 Confucius Institutes in Laos, Thailand, and Indonesia. It has hosted various foreign-related trainings for more than 15,000 people, and has a profound foundation of international exchanges and cooperation. The School of Communication of the school has accumulated rich experience in teaching, scientific research and talent training in the fields of news communication, cross-cultural communication and other fields.
It is reported that the School of International Communication of Guangxi University for Nationalities will adhere to the principles of complementary advantages, resource sharing, and mutual benefit, actively align with local development strategies, and assist local foreign cultural exchanges and international communication capacity building. The college will also take the initiative to undertake projects such as international communication talent training, cross-cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, and training for ASEAN foreign-related cadres. It will rely on overseas Confucius Institutes and other platforms to create a distinctive communication brand and enhance the school's international influence and service regional development capabilities for ASEAN.
