On September 4, the opening ceremony of the 24th Caijing Magazine Scholarship and the 13th Caijing Law and Economics Scholarship and the graduation ceremony of the 23rd Caijing Magazine Scholarship and the 12th Caijing Law and Economics Scholarship were grandly held in the Chengze Park of the National Development Research Institute of Peking University.
The "Finance" magazine scholarship program was founded in 1999 and has a history of 25 years. As the most respected scholarship program in China’s journalism community, the Caijing Scholarship relies on the top faculty and diversified curriculum system of Peking University’s National School of Development to provide targeted theoretical guidance and business training to professional practitioners who are at the forefront of journalism.

We need to conduct real-world economic research, enter the real world of the Chinese economy, and answer important economic questions for our country. Finding answers to the real world is what I think media workers have always been pursuing, and we must pass it on to the public through you. When we do research, teaching, and thinking, we must coexist "up to the sky" and "standing on the ground." When we think about problems and look for directions, we need to look for content with important intentions, but when we actually do research, teach, and write articles, we must be meticulous. I hope this attitude and approach can also be inspiring to our students.

In the process of visiting overseas reporters from domestic media, we learned that the current working environment for media people is not easy. The advantage of young media professionals is that they are focused and dedicated, but they still lack knowledge and experience. Because of this, the "Finance" scholarship program has been particularly valuable in cultivating media professionals over the years. I hope that students will cherish their three-month time at school, cherish their lifelong alumni status, and work together to achieve the goal of making the world a better place.

"Caijing" scholarship students have three orientations: first, to become Peking University people, they must have independent thought and free personality as Peking University encourages; second, to become National Development Institute people, they must not lower their heads to pull the cart, but to look up at the road, and must be high-minded and forward-looking; third, to become international people, 99% of the professors of National Institute of Development have obtained doctorates abroad, which determines that the teachers and courses have a truly global perspective. Therefore, the three-month condensed course is a very special treat. Students must have self-drive, self-control, insight, concentration and perseverance. They must continue to conduct personal reflection during the three months in order to truly understand and absorb the essence of the "Finance" scholarship.

I have been teaching in the "Financial Economics" scholarship class for more than ten years. Our courses have also undergone many upgrades along with changes in times and policies. In these three months of study, I hope you can learn how to truly judge the world and improve your deep understanding of problems; secondly, build your own knowledge and learning network, discover the "threads" of learning during the intensive three months of challenging study, discover your true points of interest, follow the clues, and follow them to further study and think; thirdly, I hope that every student can gain identity and be full of trust in our big family of "Finance" class. Three months can't change you, but it can improve your understanding of the world.

We are living in an era of great changes. What we face is not a single economic dilemma, a single aging problem, Sino-US economic and trade conflicts, or ChatGPT, but a wrap-up of challenges including natural disasters, war threats, technological breakthroughs, and social transformation. I hope that students can turn their sense of worry and desire for reform into motivation for learning, and calm down to study and think. Think about what readers need in this era and what is the essence of survival for media people.

From the day it was born, the media has had a natural and unique attribute and function. It is the observer, watcher and conscience of society. Financial media people, especially in the midst of complex economic and social phenomena and chaotic information, should give everyone clearer guidance, tips and supervision, instead of following others' opinions, replacing rationality with sensibility, or replacing the investigation of data and facts with tendencies. The mission of our financial media has just passed the first stage, which is an era of extensive and reckless market economy.

As recorders of the times, facing the complex and severe environment, we must not only respond quickly, capture the fluctuations and trends of the times, rationally describe China's true position in the changes, accurately grasp the context of international development and the reality of different stages, and promote rational thinking and scientific judgment in solving social and economic problems; at the same time, we must also cultivate our own wisdom and ability to deal with complex challenges, conduct more in-depth investigations and studies to clarify logical connections, and help the government make decisions to optimize the environment.

The three months at Peking University National Development and Research Institute were like a dream. None of us wanted to wake up and indulge in the ivory tower. But dreams must eventually be awakened. The expectations of Caijing magazine and the National Development and Research Institute of China are to apply what we have learned and spread true knowledge.
