Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics Oriental College is an applied undergraduate college with economics and management as its main subjects and coordinated development of economics, management, literature, art, law, science and engineering. It is a full-time undergraduate independent college approved by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government in 1999 and confirmed by the Ministry of Education in 2004. In September 2010, the entire campus was moved from Wenhua Campus in Hangzhou to Chang'an New Campus in Lianhang Economic Development Zone, Haining City, Zhejiang Province. In 2014, the college was rated as an advanced unit for the research and practice of entrepreneurship education in higher education institutions nationwide. In December 2015, it was approved as one of the first ten application-oriented construction pilot demonstration undergraduate universities in Zhejiang Province. In December 2016, it was elected as the vice-chairman unit of the Zhejiang Province Applied Universities Alliance and a director unit of the National Finance and Economics College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Collaboration Group.
The college is located in Haining, a famous historical and cultural city and the capital of modern leather clothing, covering an area of nearly 1,000 acres and a construction area of more than 310,000 square meters. The college has convenient transportation. It is close to the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway and Hangzhou-Puzhou Expressway. The Hangzhou-Sea Intercity Railway is planned to be built directly to the entrance of the college. It is more than 10 kilometers away from the Xiasha Campus of Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics and Linping, Hangzhou. The college has complete teaching facilities, excellent living facilities and an elegant campus environment. It is one of the "Top Ten Most Beautiful Campuses in Zhejiang Province".
The college currently has 10 secondary branches and 1 sports teaching center, namely the Finance and Economics and Trade Branch, the Finance and Taxation Branch, the Business Administration Branch, the Accounting Branch, the Information Branch, the Legal Affairs Branch, the Cultural Communication and Design Branch, the Foreign Languages Branch, the Entrepreneurship School, the Adult Education Branch and the Sports Center. The major setting is closely combined with the needs of Zhejiang's economic and social development, and strives to build an undergraduate training system that "sets majors according to social needs, lays a foundation according to general requirements, and sets directions according to job requirements, so that students can easily transfer horizontally and promote vertically." There are currently 33 undergraduate majors, mainly oriented to the fields of modern service industry, cultural and creative industries, and public administration. There are currently nearly 10,000 full-time undergraduate students.
The college adheres to teaching as the center, actively builds an innovation and entrepreneurship course system that integrates the whole process of talent training, continuously deepens education and teaching reform, strengthens practical teaching, and steadily improves teaching quality. Professional characteristics and advantages gradually emerge. The quality of talent training has obvious results, and students have strong innovation and entrepreneurship awareness and practical abilities. In recent years, students have won 15 international awards, 67 national awards, and 310 provincial awards in various subject competitions, innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and cultural and sports competitions. Graduates are widely praised by employers, and the employment rate has been around 97% in the past three years, ranking among the top independent colleges and even ordinary undergraduate universities in the province. The comprehensive employer satisfaction index ranks first among independent colleges in the province for three consecutive years; the student practical ability index ranks first among independent colleges in the province for two consecutive years. Among the graduates, there are also a number of outstanding graduate representatives such as the top ten annual news figures in Zhejiang Education and the first top ten college students in Zhejiang Province, "Agricultural Makers".
In order to improve the effect of practical teaching and ensure the quality of teaching, the college has successively built 5 practical training centers, cooperated with the Haining Chang'an Town People's Government to organize the Haining Canal No. 1 Innovation Park, and established nearly 100 off-campus practical teaching bases with a large number of enterprises and institutions inside and outside the province, with a total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment of more than 42 million yuan. The college library currently has a collection of more than 940,000 paper books, more than 1,800 Chinese and foreign language journals, and 71 Chinese and foreign language databases. Digital resources are shared with the campus library. There are 18 reading rooms of various types and a total of more than 3,300 reading seats.
The college attaches great importance to the construction of the teaching staff. Based on the teaching advantages of Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, it strives to introduce high-level talents at home and abroad, and hires well-known professors from domestic and foreign universities and experts, scholars, and senior technical management talents from enterprises and institutions as subject leaders and part-time professors. It also fully implements the credit-based training system for young teachers to improve the overall quality of young teachers. There are more than 400 full-time teachers and more than 100 external teachers. Among them, full-time teachers with senior professional and technical positions account for about 30% of the total, and full-time teachers with master's degrees or above account for about 85% of the total. In recent years, the college has strengthened the integration of industry and education, deepened school-region-school-enterprise cooperation, and cooperated with the government, enterprises, and industries to build the School of Marxism, the Institute of Economics and Information Technology, Danai College, and the Oriental Pathfinder College. The teachers of the college are oriented to applied scientific research and have completed a large number of high-quality scientific research projects, actively serving local economic and social development and the cultivation of applied talents in the college.
The college actively carries out international exchanges and cooperation to create a platform for students to study abroad. We carry out student study tours, paid internships and exchange studies, study for MBA and international master's degrees and other forms of cooperation and exchange projects, and establish cooperation mechanisms with more than 10 overseas universities such as the University of Adelaide in Australia, Flossberg State University in the United States, Rennes Business School in France, Algonquin College in Canada, and Kyushu Institute of Foreign Languages in Japan. The British Chartered Accountant (ACA) and the American Certified Management Accountant (CMA) international schools are at the forefront of independent colleges in the province.
The college has formed a relatively complete mechanism to encourage students to learn and innovate. The college implements a student transfer major system to encourage students who have the ability to study to study double majors; students with particularly excellent academic performance can transfer to the main department at a certain rate at the end of the second academic year to study and obtain a diploma from Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics. The college has nearly 20 scholarships of various types, including Oriental Academy Scholarship and Outstanding Student Scholarship, with more than 50% of the students receiving scholarships.
