First of all, let me state what I know about the employment directions of English majors. Mainly include international trade direction, tourism direction and teaching direction. The tourism direction mainly involves positions such as English-speaking tour guides, reception and management personnel of foreign-related hotels, senior clerks of foreign companies, and general administrators of export-oriented companies. Generally, college students' employment knowledge mainly comes from online and school employment guidance, followed by newspapers, magazines and training institutions. Regarding the majors studied by individuals, many people think it has a promising future, a few think it is very promising, and some people think it has no future or have not thought about it at all. At present, there are more than 300 million people studying English (professional and non-professional) in my country, accounting for about 1/4 of the country's total population. Such a large number of people are learning English, but what is their actual application level? In addition to the interview survey, I also sent out 50 questionnaires in the school. The content of the survey was: "What are the employment directions for English majors in normal schools?" 5. Conclusions and suggestions
Although the current employment situation for college students is quite severe, with teacher positions in big cities becoming increasingly saturated and oversupplied. However, due to the adjustment of my country's education policy, a large number of private schools and vocational schools have emerged in recent years, which has increased employment opportunities for normal students and broadened the job market for graduates within the education system. What cannot be ignored is that my country’s central and western regions are facing a shortage of high-quality teachers and a lack of staff in the grassroots education system. In the past two or three years, provincial capital cities in the central and western regions and some second- and even third-tier cities in economically developed regions have become hot spots for teacher graduates to find jobs.
Under this circumstance, the most important thing for students majoring in English in normal schools is to lay a solid foundation in language. The companies surveyed also provide different positions to English major graduates, including copywriting, management, sales, etc. jobs. The tasks are clear but there is no professional title. This can also be seen as a sign that an enterprise is not formal enough. Regarding the company's enrollment numbers and starting salaries for English majors, both are relatively low. Regarding other skill requirements for English majors from many units, they chose word processing ability, public relations ability, financial expertise and planning ability (in order from most to least).
Regarding the abilities that English graduates need to improve most after entering the workplace, 5 companies chose business practical abilities, and others include daily communication skills and language application abilities.
Regarding the situation of English talents in the talent market, they mostly believe that there are not many English talents who meet the requirements, and the ability and quality of today's graduates are not as good as before. At work, they hope that employees can be innovative and perfect. And almost all of them expressed their willingness to accept paid internships from students.
In addition to English language courses, they believe that the courses most needed for English majors are applied courses, such as international business law, e-commerce, communication etiquette, business planning, business negotiation, foreign trade correspondence writing, computer applications, etc. In addition, three companies have chosen business English skills courses, such as business English reading, business English listening and speaking, business English writing, business English translation, etc.

In addition, if English major graduates want to find a place in the workplace, English proficiency alone is not enough. They must have sufficient business knowledge and other skills.
