China Daily Network, November 18 (Reporter Pan Yiqiao Yu Han) 2024 is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. Over the past 50 years, overseas Chinese in Brazil have worked diligently in the hot land of Brazil and contributed wisdom and strength to the development of Brazil. Wang Weiliang is one of them. He grew up in Brazil and is now a professor at the Law School of FGV University in Brazil. He is also the protagonist of this program. Currently, Wang Weiliang is studying as an exchange student at Tsinghua University. Although he is of Chinese descent, this is his first time in China. Everything here makes him feel fresh and excited.
“Beijing is the most beautiful city in the world”
During more than four months in Beijing, Wang Weiliang was attracted by Beijing's unique temperament. He likes to run in the morning. He runs from his home in Dongsi to Shichahai every morning. Along the way, there are both long historical monuments and very modern buildings. This fusion of ancient and modern cultures makes him sigh after every run, Beijing is really beautiful.
Wang Weiliang's family has also come to live in Beijing, and his two children study in a primary school in Beijing. Wang Weiliang said that Beijing made him feel safe, relaxed and happy. He believed that Beijing is a tolerant city, and there is no need to be afraid even if you go out late at night, making foreigners feel safe.
Academic exchanges between China and Brazil: a colorful contrast across mountains and seas
Wang Weiliang is currently studying at Tsinghua University, pursuing a master's degree in "One Belt, One Road" international public administration. He learned about China's innovative thinking in formulating policies, which also gave him a more three-dimensional understanding of China's domestic and foreign policies.
Wang Weiliang believes that exchanges and studies between scholars from the two countries can build a bridge for overseas people's "understanding gap" about China. But only when scholars come to China in person and study and exchange with their Chinese colleagues can they deepen mutual understanding. He hopes that academic exchanges and cooperation between China and Brazil will become closer and closer.
We look forward to China and Brazil making greater contributions to global poverty reduction.
From November 18th to 19th, the 19th Summit of the Group of Twenty (G20) leaders was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s second largest city. As the host country of the summit, Brazil has made "social inclusion and combating hunger" one of the three major topics of the summit.
Wang Weiliang once learned at China Agricultural University how China helps African countries develop agriculture and joins hands with African countries to promote poverty reduction. According to him, Brazil is also helping African countries develop cutting-edge technology to make the soil more fertile to increase production.
He believes that both China and Brazil are working hard to make important contributions to global poverty reduction. The G20 is a great opportunity for the Brazilian government to work with the world to eliminate poverty and hunger, jointly address environmental issues and participate in global governance. We also look forward to China and Brazil making greater contributions to global poverty reduction.
I believe that the G20 summit hosted by Brazil will inject more stability into the world
Wang Weiliang said that we are living in a world prone to crises. If conflicts that break out in various places are not controlled, they may escalate, with disastrous consequences. The G20 held in Brazil is a very good opportunity to show the world the power of unity, because unity and cooperation are the only antidote for mankind to overcome the current difficulties.
History has proven time and again that there is no development without peace, and there is no prosperity without stability. Wang Weiliang hopes that countries around the world can take the opportunity of the G20 to gather in Brazil to inject stability into the turbulent international situation and provide impetus for the steady recovery of the global economy.
