Xinhua News Agency quoted South Korea's SBS TV news channel as reporting on the 11th. A surveillance video obtained by the station showed that the US military's "THAAD" anti-missile system launch vehicle deployed at the Seongju base in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, was transported from the Seongju base in early March and headed for the Middle East.
The video was allegedly shot on March 3 on a country road near the US military base in South Korea. The video showed that multiple large vehicles with their tops covered with blocking cloths drove past one after another for more than 10 minutes. According to reports, after identification, there were a total of 6 "THAAD" launch vehicles among them. The Seongju base has deployed a "THAAD" combat unit consisting of six launch vehicles, which means that all "THAAD" launch vehicles have been transported away from the base.
Local residents of Seongju and some civil society groups issued a statement saying that the six "THAAD" launch vehicles transported from the Seongju base have been confirmed by U.S. officials to be transferred to the Middle East. The statement stated that no information was notified before the transfer of the THAAD launch vehicle, and even the South Korean government was not aware of it.
According to a report by the Washington Post on the 9th, the United States is transporting part of the "THAAD" anti-missile system deployed in South Korea to the Middle East. The report quoted two U.S. government officials as saying that in addition to THAAD, the U.S. military also mobilized "Patriot" interceptor missiles from the so-called "Indo-Pacific" region and other regions.
According to Blue House news, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said when presiding over a state meeting at the Blue House on the 10th that the South Korean government opposed the deployment of some air defense weapons by the US military, but the objective reality is that it is difficult for South Korea’s opinions to be implemented.
According to a report from Global Network, the media recently broke the news that the US military in South Korea transferred some weapons and equipment from South Korea to the Middle East, causing concern. According to reports from Reuters, Yonhap News Agency and other media, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung did not clearly confirm the possible transfer or redeployment of US military assets in South Korea when he hosted a state meeting at the presidential palace on the 10th. However, he also said that although South Korea has expressed opposition, South Korea’s opinions will not be fully adopted. This is a "harsh reality."
